  • September 2016: RADARSAT continental mosaics of Antarctica from 1997 and 2000 are available on the PDC Search! These images can be compared to the 2008 Antarctic mosaics from RADARSAT-2 which were released on the PDC in 2014. We hope they are useful to you!

  • April 2016: Check out the new Sea and Lake Ice Visualization Tool. It animates and graphs sea and lake ice thickness data from Canada's Arctic, collected through the Ice Thickness Program at the Canadian Ice Service of Environment Canada.
  • April 2016: The new PDC Map Viewer has been launched, showing beautiful graphic displays of oceanic data from CTD and mooring observations in the Arctic Ocean. Please check it out and let us know what you think!
  • April 2016: Happy Earth Day! The Polar Space Task Group has released 20 years of satellite images of the polar regions. The PDC contributed to this collection through public release of the 2008 Antarctica continental mosaics, available in the PDC Search.
  • January 2016: The Polar Data Forum II Communiqué is now available! Please circulate this document to your colleagues to share the outcomes and recommendations from the Polar Data Forum II deliberations.

  • November 2015: CCIN and the PDC are proud to have co-hosted the Polar Data Forum II at the University of Waterloo last month. Many thanks to the more than 110 participants from 18 countries who shared their knowledge and expertise on polar data management activities around the world!
  • September 2015: The PDC Search has a new Map Viewer data visualization tool to display ocean data from the Amundsen's ArcticNet cruises! Choose the Polar Data Catalogue collection, then search for Map Viewer datasets to use the new tool.

  • March 2014: Dr. Masaki Kanao from the Polar Data Center of the National Institute of Polar Research in Tokyo, Japan visited CCIN and the PDC to discuss metadata interoperability and the establishment of an international polar metadata sharing network!
  • February 2014: CCIN/PDC staff attended the CODE Open Data event at the University of Waterloo-Stratford campus to discuss the benefits of Open Data and generate ideas for sharing PDC data via new apps and visualizations.

  • December 2013: CCIN staff and partners presented information on the Polar Data Catalogue and many other aspects of Arctic science at the ArcticNet Annual Scientific Meeting in Halifax. Abstracts are available in the Conference Proceedings.

  • October 2013: The PDC Geospatial Search application has been enhanced with a new GIS Viewer and new display and download options for RADARSAT imagery! Please visit the PDC Search to view and query our first dataset in this new map viewer as well as to view and download RADARSAT imagery in CEOS, geotiff, jpg, and other formats and configurations.

The links for the PDC Search as well as the PDC Data and Metadata Input application have changed, so please update your bookmarks.   • June 2013: With the Canadian Polar Data Network (CPDN) and the Canadian High Arctic Research Station, we are pleased to announce completion of The Canadian High Arctic Research Station (CHARS): Data and Information Management for Science and Technology report, which outlines requirements, expectations, and goals for CHARS with respect to Arctic data and information management. This substantial document will aid the CHARS program as they move forward with planning.
  • February 2013: Nordicana Series D is now online! Published by the CEN - Centre for Northern Studies, Nordicana Series D is a formatted, online report series of monitoring and research data archived at CEN, intended to aid management of data sets, maximize data exchange, and provide a lasting legacy of CEN monitoring and research activities.
  • February 2013: Over 20,000 new RADARSAT-1 images from the Canadian Ice Service are available in the Polar Data Catalogue! These images cover all Canadian waters, from 1997 to 2006.
  • January 2013: To provide direct access to the Polar Data Catalogue online applications, we have modified the configuration of our websites. From now on, ccin.ca and socc.ca will take you to the CCIN outreach and information site, and polardata.ca will take you to the PDC main page, from which the PDC Metadata/Data Input application, the PDC Geospatial Search application, and the PDCLite Low-Bandwidth Search tool can be directly accessed.
  • January 2013: Anders Morley, PDC/CCIN website frequent visitor and cross-country skier, continues his cross-Canada ski trip, collecting snow and ice data for us along the way! A news article is available on the University of Waterloo's Faculty of Environment site.
  • December 2012: The PDC was shared in posters and oral presentations at the ArcticNet Annual Scientific Meeting in Vancouver. Abstracts can be found under E. LeDrew, J. Michaud, and J. Friddell in the ASM Programme.
  • December 2012: The PDCLite low-bandwidth search tool is now available! PDCLite has been created with the support of ArcticNet for our Northern partners and users whose internet speed is limited. Please have a look and let us know what you think!

  • November 2012: Anders Morley, PDC/CCIN website frequent visitor and cross-country skier, is embarking on a cross-Canada ski trip and will be collecting snow and ice data for us along the way! See his website, BigSki.org, for blog posts and updates.
  • October 2012: The PDC and University of Waterloo Library are hosting Data Management Day Thursday, 25 October to raise awareness and discuss the issues surrounding the discovery, access and preservation of research data.
  • September 2012: Welcome to the new CCIN/PDC website! We have updated the science and added new data visualizations to the Canadian Cryospheric Information Network website and have combined it with the Polar Data Catalogue Search and PDC Metadata/Data Input websites. We hope you find the new site useful and informative and welcome your feedback!
  • May 2012: The PDC will soon provide free public access to the recent RADARSAT-2 mosaic of Antarctica, courtesy of the Canadian Space Agency and MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd.! Please check back later in 2012 for updates.
  • March 2012:The 2010-2011 ArcticNet Annual Report is available for download in the Media and Publications section of the ArcticNet website. Hard copies are available upon request.
  • October 2011: The Polar Data Catalogue is on Twitter! Follow "polardata" for announcements of new metadata and datasets in the PDC.
  • December 2010: The Fall 2010 Newsletter of the University of Waterloo's Interdisciplinary Centre on Climate Change (IC3) is available. The Newsletter includes a short article on the Polar Data Catalogue and CCIN.
  • August 2010: Over 7,000 images of the RADARSAT-1 Polar Science Dataset from the Canadian Space Agency are now available for searching and download on the PDC.
  • July 2010: CCIN and the PDC have been chosen as one of six partners in the new International Polar Year (IPY) Data Assembly Centre Network! We and the other Network partners will be working with IPY scientists to ingest their IPY project data over the next two years.
